The season started off well and it began to as though Coventry could bounce from Division 4 to the second division in two seasons.They stayed with the
leaders through out the season.Manager Billy Frith brought in forward Ron Hewitt from Wrexham while city were sitting in 4th position,but the directors had to put their hands into their pockets to find the 4,000 pounds.
On 9th of April they beat second placed Norwich at Highfield Road in front of 28,000 to move into 3rd place with only half a dozen games to play.
But then the bubble burst during easter when they lost all 3 games,3-0 and 2-0 by grimsby and 1-0 by Southend.The home game against Grimsby was thought to have been the worst of the season with the fans
booing.The promotion chance had gone,the attendence for home games went down to 8,000 but they had finished in a repectable 5th place.
Frith was then in May given a four year deal.
